Bukit Puteri-Princess Hill

A short climb to the summit reveals a fort dating from the early 19th century. In 1839, Baginda Omar overthrew his cousin, Sultan Muhammad and captured the fort after 3 attempts. Baginda finally ascended the throne, as provided by an astrologer pointing to the mole on his chest, perhaps implying that the moles are points in the table of his destiny. One night, after learning about the prediction of the astrologer, Baginda Omar's older brother flew into the fort and the bit of the mole, whereas the loss of the mole would have meant the loss of the throne. It surely did not work quite that his brother should (?!!!) - Baginda held the fort rebuilt and strengthened - in charge of a number of guns for protection against his enemies, even his family! This was where he lived during the early years of his reign. He spent much of his early days as leader of Terengganu discuss strategies of war with his generals on a platform, called singgahsana "as seen at the fortress. Here, a large bell is sitting comfortably on its way. It was commissioned during the reign of Sultan Zainal Abidin III in the year 1908 and was used to sound the alarm in an emergency - such as enemies, and even fire people running amok (wild) in the street.
The bell, the "singgahsana 'and a few guns have survived years of fighting and can be seen at Bukit Puteri. However, many of the original cannons were taken to Siam (Thailand) by the Siamese when they decided to Terengganu 1843-1845. Besides the remains mentioned, there is not much to see, except that the hill has a beautiful sea view and is a good place to rest under the shade of trees during the hot afternoon.
